Jenny, R. 2010. Gongora herrenhusana - eine alte Art, endlich mit eigenem Namen. Orchideen (Hamburg) 61(2): 84-88.
Summary: This report describes a species that was already known for a long time but was not regarded as a species in its own right. In 1844 John Lindley described in "Edwards's Botanical Register" Gongora maculata var. tricolor on the basis of a specimen from Clowes's collection. In 1847, Lindley amended his description with a drawing and more detailed information about its place of origin. It is similar to the Gongora tricolor described by Reichenbach in "Bonpiandia" in 1854, but shows differences in the lip and also has longer and many flowered inflorescences. On the basis of the existing differences, this species is now newly described as Gongora herrenhusana.
