Common name: The "helmet-shaped" orchid.
Distribution: From Mexico (Chiapas) to Costa Rica.
Habitat: Epiphytic in wet and cloud forest, between 850 and 1600 meters of elevation.
Etymology: Gongora, in honor to the Peruvian Governor Antonio Caballero y Góngora, during Ruiz y Pavón botanical expedition; cassidea, from the Latin cassis, -idis, helmet, referring to the shape of the flower.
Nombre común: Orquídea con foma de casco.
Distribución: Desde México (Chiapas) hasta Costa Rica.
Hábitat: Epífita en bosque pluvial y nuboso, desde los 850 hasta los 1600 metros de elevación.
Etimología: Gongora, en honor al governador de Perú Antonio Caballero y Góngora durante la expedición botánica de Ruiz y Pavón; cassidea, del latín cassis, -idis, casco, por la forma de su flor.
