El Parque Nacional Cahuita (PNC) se encuentra en la provincia de Limón, en la costa sureste del Atlántico de Costa Rica. El área fue decretada Parque Nacional en 1974, bajo el gobierno del presidente José Figueres Ferrer, con el fin de proteger los principales ecosistemas de arrecifes coralinos de la costa sur del Caribe. El parque también protege bosques tropicales húmedos de bajura, pantanos, manglares y playas de arena de gran belleza escénica. El Bluff era el nombre del actual pueblo de Cahuita. Cahuita proviene de las palabras miskitas "Kawe", un nombre para el árbol Pterocarpus officinalis Jacq. o "Sangrillo" y "ta" que significa "punta". Los miskitos son un grupo étnico de la costa Caribe de Honduras y Nicaragua. Administrativamente, el CNP pertenece al Área de Conservación La Amistad Caribe (ACLA-C), del Ministerio de Ambiente, Energía y Telecomunicaciones (MINAET) y su Sistema Nacional de Áreas de Conservación (SINAC).

Cahuita National Park (CNP) is located in Limón province and lies on the southeast Atlantic coast of Costa Rica. The area was decreed National Park in 1974, under the government of President José Figueres Ferrer, with the interest of protecting the main coral reef ecosystems of the southern Caribbean coast. The Park also protects lowland tropical wet forest, marshlands, mangroves and sand beaches of great scenic beauty. The Bluff was the name of the actual village of Cahuita. Cahuita comes from the Miskito "Kawe", a name for the tree Pterocarpus officinalis Jacq. or "Sangrillo" and "ta" which means "point". The Miskitos is an indigenous group of the Caribbean coast of Honduras and Nicaragua. Administratively, CNP belongs to the Area de Conservación La Amistad Caribe (ACLA-C) of the Costa Rican Ministry of Environment, Energy and Telecommunications (MINAET) and its National System of Conservation Areas (SINAC). The present list includes species from the Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge (GMWR). Species recorded only in the GMWR are marked with an asterisk. |
